skebe: That's true. They only try that with those who they believe are weak enough to control and intimidate. Isn't it interesting that the two regional leaders who boldly spoke up against their domineering ambitions (Ahmadu Bello and SLA) were silenced via the barrel of the gun for being 'tribalistic', among other reasons -- I theorize that one of the reasons why those coup plotters marked SLA and Bello for death was because of their broadcast and interview they both did (respectively) to raise awareness. Whereas the oga patapata tribalist (Zik) and his fellow henchmen were spared. Lagos in particular will always be their most coveted estate. Why else do you think Evans the kidnapper settled for Lagos-based igbos and not Anambra or Abia-based ones as his focus of operations? It's because his research showed that it's in Lagos that the most successful businessmen and traders make their money, and not anywhere in the SE.

When I heard how much he was collecting from his victims, it was in $. For a business to move from SME to Large scale business in Nigeria, it most likely has to be in the commercial hub, which is Lagos.

I remember one of my instructors (who also happens to be an accomplished entrepreneur on the side) at the Lagos Business school told us during one of her sessions about a Yoruba businesswoman who trades at the popular Oke-Aarin market. She said the lady makes a turnover of N2-billion naira monthly in sales! And no be exaggeration. She sells FMCG (fast moving consumer goods), wholesale. She said right in front of her, she witnessed agents from 4 major banks come into the woman's shop to pick up Ghana-must-go bags full of money from her shops. She said all the woman's kids attended the best schools in the world (Cambridge, Yale, Harvard, you name it) from the proceeds of the same business, and that they've all joined their mother at the market. Guy, forget that thing. Money is being made wella for Lagos o. Owo buruku wa l'eko mehn.

Perhaps part of it's coz that's where the real market for consumer goods is at, considering its huge population. Though I heard some things are more expensive in places like Abuja and PH than they are in Lagos. It also depends on your target market. FMCGs for example will always do better in Lagos than other states. I know of two people that have had to relocate to Lagos from Abuja coz they wanted to take advantage of the larger market. One of them manufactures locally made perfumes/colognes/air-freshners (the chap's originally from Benue). Besides the market, it was also cheaper for him to source his raw materials in Lagos than Abuja. So it depends.
