For the first time in recent history, Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri surmounted his continental rival – Egypt’s Omar Assar in the final of the 2017 ITTF Africa Cup to qualify for the ITTF World Cup in France. Having conquered Egypt’s Mohamed El-Beiali 4-0 in the semifinal, Aruna Quadri showed his class to beat Omar Assar 4-3 in the men’s singles final to the admiration of the fans at the venue. Throughout the encounter, Aruna Quadri who played without any coach was calm throughout the encounter even when Assar was leading, he never gave up but continued to fight. Without any doubt the match has been described as a good showcase of Africa as both players played their heart out to the excitement of the fans at the venue. An elated Aruna Quadri said he believes luck was in his favour as his opponent also played well. “I am so happy and I think luck was in my favour and I look forward to play in the ITTF World Cup later this year in France,” Quadri said. In the women’s singles final, Olufunke Oshonaike surrendered to Egypt’s Dina Meshref in the final as the Nigerian lost 4-0. Aruna Quadri and Dina Meshref will represent Africa at this year’s ITTF World Cups later in the year. www.vanguardngr.com/2017/07/aruna-quadri-beats-omar-assar-qualifies-ittf-world-cup/

With a name like Aruna Quadri I was always of the opinion that this guy was from somewhere in the middle belt. Until I discovered he was from somewhere in Oyo.
Congrats to him.

Aruna Quadri don tey for this thing lol. Him and Toriola the local yampion Congrats to him Yes, egbon.. Table Tennis is a sport that has been dominated by yorubas right from time.. There is no politics in table tennis, you just have to go with your best players and there are qualifiers to determine who represents Nigeria.. Unlike football where agents and sports administrators determines who qualifies to represent the nation at under 17,under 20 football tournaments Out of the ten players selected to represent Nigeria at the Africa junior table tennis championship in Tunisia, eight were yorubas. Although they didn't eventually go due to paucity of funds .. Azeez solanke and Esther oribamise are both tipped to replace Aruna Quadri and funke Oshonaike Esther oribamise has qualified for next year's junior Olympics in Argentina, azeez lost in the semi final. In terms of indoor sports, South West sports ministries are trying.. Most especially lagos, Ogun and Ekiti... Kwara state too is trying in indoor sports Plus, Egbon, Toriola no be local champion oooo, he don win Commonwealth singles before na but na because dose Chinese no dey com Commonwealth games.. Lol. . Aruna Quadri is the real deal
