This has always been my opinion sugbon suuru mi tin buku oooBy the way, Osun state has been the best performing state so far in the Cowbell competitions as at the last time I checked Make I find am sef The bolded is what makes you a Nigerian. But I thought you used to be a Surulere guy, when did you port to Olorunsogo? Nigerians na always fire brigade approach and that is why we give the politicians enough reason to exploit us. Aregbesola is doing what exactly Awolowo did in 1955. Awolowo knew that human capital would be a major factor in the western region after the independence. That was how he introduced the free education so that majority of people of south west would have access to education. You can't tell me that the results started showing immediately. It took between 10 to 20 years before such giant stride started yielding desired results. I'm a lover of process and procedure. I don't believe in short-cut and fire brigade approach because they might solve immediate problems, but the fundamental problems will still be there. Let's give him the benefit of doubt.

Honorebu, see now, people are grabbing with the reality. Check this thread, even the hardest enemies of Aregbesola are now singing his praise. Learn that he would be paying the full salaries henceforth with staggered payment for the owed ones. This is great news indeed. I think the fact that students had to pass a "mock" exam before they would be permitted to register for the Waec exams must have helped.
Let's hope the Nigerian factor of "miracle centers" was not involved aha.

-Ekiti was the best performing state for 2016 NECO -Oyo state schools ownership has been reformed and automatic promotion cancelled -Osun state is progressing in WAEC
What exactly is happening in Ogun? That's another state that has performed woefully in external exams

Honorebu , I think Ogbeni had very ambitious plans for the state but somehow along the way something went wrong somewhere. But all the same, I know he more than any other governor that has ever ruled the state would be leaving the state much much better off infrastructurally than any of his predecessors. His urban renewal plans were very bold and daring if you ask me, and I would recommend something similar for other parts of the SW region, even though he didn't get to implement them. I read an old news report of his vision right after he entered into office and I was very impressed with it. Check it out below: Osun…Transforming Ageing Cities, Schools To Prevent Disasters
*Says Government is committed to improved living standards
The Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has said that the state will require over $1.4 billion to separate and to rebuild houses in other to achieve his administration’s urban renewal programme. The governor, while speaking at the UN-Habitat World Urban Forum (WUF) 6 Mayors’ Roundtable at Naples, Italy stressed that his administration discovered that more than 38,000 buildings have either become dilapidated or are deteriorating. Aregbesola who was represented by the state Commissioner for Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Arch. Olumuyiwa Ige held that when the administration came into office in November 2010, it undertook an assessment of the condition of urban centres in the State and discovered that not only can they not sustain their present populations, they are in no shape to accommodate the future. He added that it was also discovered that a significant shift in the economic pattern affected cities negatively, stating that cities were built with wealth realised from exported cash crops which when the commodities economy collapsed, the houses and structures built from this wealth suffered neglect and were either decaying or collapsing. According to the governor, “This situation, therefore, requires leadership and exceptional governance capabilities. The urgent task before us is to renew the urban centres, upgrade the slums and build future cities, while ensuring good governance. “Our first response was to put in place a committee of seasoned professionals and academics in urban and regional planning who are working assiduously to develop a modern urban outlook for our numerous towns and cities. In the first phase of this project, one kilometre radius of the urban core of nine cities will be renewed – with roads, drainages, infrastructure and full municipal services. Through this programme, we intend to transform the urban centres into modern ones, and ensure their sustainability.” Aregbesola held. The governor while thanking UN-HABITAT for collaborating with the state on Structure Plan for nine cities, out of the 17 in their programme, said, the most rewarding aspect of the collaboration is the Participatory Governance Strategy that will be brought to bear in developing the Structure Plans. He noted that, for the programme to have legal backing, Osun has prepared a new law on Urban and Regional Planning to govern and regulate planning and enforcement processes of physical environment. His words, “Our plan for the future also includes effective rural development. We have a dedicated agency devoted to rural and community development, the Office of Rural and Community Development, reporting directly to the Governor. Infrastructure such as water, electricity, rural access roads, etc. are being provided in the rural areas and the citizens are effectively engaged to take ownership of these infrastructures, for sustainability. “This will make rural areas more attractive and help stem rural-urban drift. We have also embarked on the channelization of all the canals, rivers, streams and rivulets in the State and thankfully, we have been spared the ravages of the floods witnessed in the past, occasioned by heavy rainfall.” Aregbesola told the gathering. He noted that the state still need more assistance and partnerships to be able to complete the first phase of the project and embark on the next. www.osundefender.org/?p=36756

True words Short_Biscuit , I don't know any governor in the NIGERIA who has invested as much as Aregbe in Education since Lateef Jakande. Even in infrastructure / urban renewal programme, only Fashola comes close. The guy don try abeg. Sadly, that salary blemish makes him look bad all the time
