Ogun State Flags Off Construction Of New City Centre, Shoprite At Abeokuta
The Ogun State government has commenced the construction of the proposed “Ogun State City Centre” in Abeokuta, the state capital. The project will house the shopping mall of Africa’s largest goods retailer, Shoprite, a twelve-storey banking facility, hotel, amphitheatre and service apartment. Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun. Speaking when he visited the site yesterday, the state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun reiterated that the project will be private sector-driven, adding however that, the state government would construct the amphitheatre. He further disclosed that two banks, Guarantee Trust Bank and First Bank Plc, have already commenced the construction of their corporate buildings, which includes a twelve-storey building, from where banking activities in West Africa will be controlled. The centre, he added, will also inhabit the Central station for the Federal Government rail project, assuring that it will be completed in 24 months. Commissioner for Housing, Segun Abiodun, said the project is one of the many, expected to bring investors to do business and reside in the state, while the Promoter of Shoprite Supermarket, Mr. Tayo Amusan, said, when completed, it will be the second largest of such. Ogun State currently cannot boast of a modern mall despite the class of citizens living in the state. Source

Ogun state needs to build a focal point city , proper CBD from which economic, commercial and other activities within the state would be co-ordinated from. This would give the state a focus of its own, rather than seeing all those areas of Ogun witnessing rapid development as mere extensions of Lagos like is currently the case.

Yes oooo. .. I visited the site when i was in abeokuta during the festive period Does it look like something serious is actually going on? Do you think they will complete it before his tenure ends? Also, it appears they are no more following the initial masterplan. That one had in it a 60-storey skyscraper. This one has a 12-storey building, an amphitheatre, a mall and a hotel I checked online to see if I would find a 3d prototype. There was nothing online. The project looks sketchy to me.

Lol, something serious was going on there when I visited, they fenced the perimeter of the site but I was able to enter.. Amosun hardly completes his projects.. He will probably abandon it at 75%... Oke-ilewo is the business centre of abeokuta. . Although it's expanding to ita-eko, onikolobo axis. . The road construction is helping abeokuta
