Okun Group Insists on Audu/Faleke MandateProminent leaders of Okun extraction in Kogi West senatorial district of Kogi State, under the auspices of Okun Development Association (ODA), have insisted on the Audu/Faleke ticket and nothing else.
The ODA is the largest non-political umbrella body of leaders from the west senatorial district where late Alhaji Abubakar Audu’s running mate, Hon. James Faleke, hails from.
In a statement rejecting the position taken in a meeting purportedly convened by the former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Chief Clarence Olafemi, with National Assembly member representing Kogi West in the Senate, Senator Dino Melaye and Kogi West All Progressives Congress (APC), Chairman, Chief Sam Asagun at Lokoja, Kogi State capital on the situation after the election debacle, the ODA chairman, Chief Akere Owoniyi, described the communiqué released at the end of the meeting as “standing logic on its head.”
At the meeting, some leaders from the West, particularly Senator Melaye, were said to have advanced the party supremacy idea in resolving the quagmire that trailed Audu’s sudden death - suggesting that the people should support Alhaji Yahya Bello who the APC National Working Committee (NWC) picked as Audu’s replacement.
But describing the Lokoja debate as a “sad reflection of the traits of self-styled leaders and elders in Okunland, Owoniyi said real leaders of the people from the district had earlier held a different meeting where far-reaching decisions were taken on the subject matter.
“The genuine stakeholders of Kogi West in a meeting held on December 8, 2015 in Kabba; the political headquarters of Kogi West, made their position clear on the Kogi election imbroglio. All those present unanimously expressed their unpreparedness to accept the position of the national leadership of the APC on this issue and assured Hon. Faleke of their unalloyed support in the quest to actualise the mandate the Audu/Faleke ticket was given by the people of Kogi State,” Owoniyi said.
According to him, “The phantom meeting at Lokoja, if it actually held, is believed to be nothing but a gathering of mercantilists and opportunists.
“The amusing request by these supposed elders to be allowed to produce and present a replacement for the deputy governor position reasonably rejected by Hon. James Faleke is a pointer to the real purpose of the meeting and the intention and interests of its conveners.” Then on the issue of party supremacy being advocated, he said it is astonishing that Senator Melaye, who was part of those that ignored party directives in the national assembly leadership saga is now an apostle of party supremacy.
Owoniyi maintained that “the hijacked mandate of the Audu/Faleke ticket is beyond any individual and all hands must be on deck to retrieve same from the usurpers and their sponsors through the instrumentality of the law,” stressing that “we are resolute in our support for Faleke in his quest to actualise his mandate through the courts.”

Posted on Dec 18 2015
THERE was a peaceful protest yesterday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, in support of the joint ticket of the late Prince Abubakar Audu and James Abiodun Faleke of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The duo contested the November 21 governorship election in Kogi State.
Placard-carrying demonstators said the joint ticket qualified APC for the election.
The protest, tagged: “A walk for Nigerian democracy”, was organised by a civil society organisation, Save Our Democracy Advocates (SODA).
Some placards read: ‘Kogi election: Prof Jega come back’, ‘Buhari and Malami don’t take us back to the era of election rigging’, ‘Save our democracy’, ‘Nigeria is not a banana republic’, ‘Kogi election was concluded on November 21’, ‘Faleke is Kogi State governor-elect’ and ‘APC don’t rob Peter to pay Paul.’
Addressing reporters, the SODA Coordinator, Comrade Taiwo Otitolaye, said Faleke remained the custodian of the people’s mandate with the death of Audu, his principal.
He added: “The APC without Audu/Faleke cannot stand election as an amorphous entity. It is their joint ticket, which qualified the party. More so, the election was contested and won on November 21.
“We cannot be silent on the Kogi State election impasse created by the diabolical exigencies and treachery of the APC, attorney-general of the federation, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Buhari administration.
“The Kogi impasse is a critical stage and part of our constitutional and political development in the annals of nation building. As such, we must rise to protect our common destiny.
“Yahaya Bello to be declared governor-elect on supplementary votes of 6,885 is the height of electoral fraud admissible within the confine of the ethos of banana republic. Subjugated victory cannot be the way forward. The people must act in unison to unmask the conspirators of our collective political destiny. We must resist an attempt to ambush and swindle the people’s mandate.
“If some people don’t want to see Faleke as an individual, they should go and settle their personal scores; personal issues should not be used to scuttle our democratic processes. Nigeria and Nigerians cannot be hoodwinked into the so-called party supremacy hinged on treachery and underdevelopment.”
Otitolaye said the protest “is a struggle hinged on Nigeria’s constitutional and political development; a national issue transcending Kogi State, the people and APC as a party. The impasse raises doubt on Nigeria’s genuineness to transit to constitutional democracy and it places on trial the administration’s sincerity to open, accountable and transparent electioneering process.”

Kogi Election: Faleke Is Taking Too Many Wrong Steps
Emmanuel Owotunse, a human right activist is not happy with the decision of James Faleke to file a suit at the tribunal over the Kogi governorship election.
Faleke, the running mate to late Abubakar Audu of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 21 governorship election in Kogi state filed a suit yesterday at the state governorship election petitions tribunal in Lokoja.
He is challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision which declared the election inconclusive and led to the APC picking Yahaya Bello to replace the late Audu.
Speaking on Monday, December 21 in Lokoja, Owotunse described Faleke’s action as an affront to the authority of the party, Vanguard reports.
According to him, the APC picked Bello because he was the most constitutionally qualified to replace the late Audu.
He said Faleke’s lawyers were apparently misleading him as he was taking too many wrong steps capable of destroying his political career.
“Moreso, the fact that Faleke is a close ally of the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is raising concerns that the decision of Faleke to go to the tribunal may affect party cohesion as the National Working Committee will surely be disappointed by the new twist in the whole saga.
“I am not happy that Faleke is giving a wrong impression of himself. He set out to be deputy governor ab initio. Why and when did he become desperate to be the governor of the state? If the party gave him the ticket for the supplementary poll, the tribunal would have nullified his election because he never took part in the governorship primaries. Is he indirectly working for the emergence of PDP?” Owotunse queried.
He therefore, advised Faleke to be cautious of political jobbers around him who are bountifully reaping from his wrong steps.
He added that Falake should accept his party’s decision to replace Audu with Bello and move on with his political life.
Faleke has been in the news lately following the inconclusive Kogi governorship election and his party picking Bello to replace the late Audu at the supplementary polls. He rejected his party’s choice to replace the late Audu with Bello, after Audu died the following morning after the November 21 election.
Upon the death of his principal, Audu, Faleke had written to the INEC asking them to declare him as winner of the polls. According to him, he would not make himself available for swearing in on January 27, 2016 as the Audu/Faleke ticket remained intact and unchanged and he has resolved not to work with Bello as his deputy.

So he is expected to keep quiet and be replaced for no apparent reason? If they didn't think he was good enough as Governor, why pick him as deputy then?
The whole fiasco has been a slap on the face of the Yorubas in Kogi

I totally agree with you on this matter.Let him seek redress in the court. Enough of 'shit taking.' keeping quiet means he agrees to that shenanigans.

‘DSS Arrests Faleke, Abubakar Audu’s Son’Deputy governorship flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress in the Nov. 21, 2015 Governorship election in Kogi State, James Faleke, and Mohammed, the eldest son of Abubakar Audu, the late APC governorship candidate, Abubakar Audu, were on Saturday invited by the State Security Services for undisclosed reason, and then detained. Director, Media and Publicity of Audu/Faleke Campaign Organisation, Duro Meseko, said in a statement on Saturday that the duo arrived the SSS headquarters in Abuja at exactly 10.00am and were kept in an office with assurances that an officer would attend to them only to keep them indefinitely. Mr. Meseko said the two politicians were kept in an isolated office till 4p.m on Saturday evening. He said, “I’m surprised my Principal and the eldest son of our political leader, Mohammed are still being kept as I speak with you which is 4pm. What could be responsible for this ill treatment by the SSS? “Or could they be acting the intimidation script? Trying to arms-twist them into abandoning the sacred mandate freely given to the Audu/Faleke team by the generality of Kogi people? “Let me make it abundantly clear that our mandate is sacred and no amount of of technical detention, intimidation and harassment would shake our resolve to get justice through the judiciary. “I refuse to believe that the presidency has hands in the arrest! But we may not rule out the fact that the power that be must have wielded their influence in the arrest, but we are not not pertubed over the development, because we believe that God ultimately vindicate us.” He stated. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/01/dss-detains-faleke-abubakar-audus-son/

Honorebu, OmoOba, Impeachment Of Kogi Speaker, Height Of Impunity – FalekeJames Faleke, the running mate of the late governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi State, Audu Bello, has condemned the impeachment of the Speaker of the Kogi House of Assembly, Momoh Lawal. Five out of the 20 members of the legislature removed Lawal on Tuesday and elected Umar Imam as the new speaker. The deputy speaker, Kolawole Matthew, and the majority leader, Alih Ajuh, were also removed. Condemning the development in a series of tweets on his official Twitter handle on Tuesday, Faleke described the impeachment as the height of impunity. He said, “I was told that five out of the 20 members of the Kogi State House of Assembly – supported by the illegal government of Yahaya Bello – have impeached the speaker. “The impeachment of the speaker by five out of the 20 members of the assembly is another illegality sponsored by the government of Yahaya Bello. “The impunity and recklessness under Bello in Kogi State must stop. We cannot afford to be in the news for the wrong reasons always.” dailyindependentnig.com/2016/02/impeachment-kogi-speaker-height-impunity-faleke/

dansoye1 , this faleke guy is too desperate for my liking and he talks too much.I expect him to be working on lobbying for the detachment of Okun from Kogi state.Even If he had been elected, nothing would have changed except that they will be more hated and marginalized. The state is messed up and very prone to violence but you know this is Nigeria where the leaders don't care as long they're own families aren't the victims.

Honorebu, OmoOba, colonial pikin, Kogi gov election: Gov Bello belongs to PDP, Faleke tells tribunalABUJA – Former running mate to late Prince Abubakar Audu, Hon. James Faleke, yesterday, alleged before the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, that Governor Yahaya Bello, is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Faleke, who is laying claim to the Kogi State governorship seat, mounted the witness box yesterday to testify in support of the petition he lodged before the tribunal. Led in evidence by his counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, Faleke adopted several statements on oath and documents which he filed in respect of the petition, as his evidence, and prayed the tribunal to accept them and declare him governor of the State. He insisted before the tribunal that contrary to the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the November 21, 2015, governorship election in the state was conclusive with the winners known. While being cross-examined by INEC lawyer, Dr. Alex Izinyon, SAN, Faleke said he was not aware that governor Bello was a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC. “My lords, I am fully aware that Yahaya campaigned for the Peoples Democratic Party during the election”, he told the tribunal. More so, the petitioner who equally joined the APC as a respondent to his petition, said he was not also aware that governor Bello contested primary election of the party with late Prince Audu. Faleke said he was duly informed that Audu resounding won the primary contest, saying before the primary held, himself and others were sent out of the venue by the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai on the ground that they were not delegates. Asked whether he was aware the November 21, 2016 election was inconclusive, the petitioner said the results were announced both at polling units ward collation centre and State collation centre. He said votes were recorded for all participating candidates and parties, noting that the returning officer erroneous claimed that the over 49000 registered voters in 41 polling units that did not cast their votes were higher than the margin of votes scored by the APC. Similarly, Faleke, while responding to a question by counsel to governor Bello, Mr. Joseph Daudu, SAN, maintained that at no point did he see himself as an independent candidate. He said he was a loyal member of the APC who is only aggrieved by the action of the INEC. Faleke told the tribunal that Audu died at about 8am and INEC declared the election inconclusive at about 4pm. He contended that though he is currently representing Lagos state in the House of Representatives, the 1999 constitution allowed him to contest election in Kogi State, being an indigene of the state. Meanwhile, the Justice Halima Mohammed-led three man panel tribunal has adjourned further hearing on the matter till today. Specifically, Faleke went before the tribunal to challenge the refusal of INEC to declare him as the valid winner of the governorship election in Kogi State. He is praying the tribunal to declare that INEC acted wrongly when it declared the outcome of the November 21 gubernatorial poll inconclusive. Faleke who is currently representing Ikeja II Federal Constituency, Lagos, contended that the initial election had produced a winner in late Prince Audu, saying his death arrogates to him, the status of Governor-elect. Insisting that he had a joint ticket with late Audu, Faleke argued that INEC should not have declared the election inconclusive since they had already secured enough votes to warrant the declaration of a winner on the basis of the total number of votes that were cast.
