Ajimobi promises free uniforms for pupils
The Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, said he would provide free uniforms for pupils of Ifesowapo Community Primary School, Boluwaji, Ibadan, whose school was part of the buildings hit by a recent fire incident that affected the area. The governor made the promise during a visit to the victims of the inferno on Friday where he also ordered immediate re-construction of the affected school buildings. The governor attributed the fire to lack of proper care by the driver of the petrol tanker that started the fire. Ajimobi said, “We will re-build the school and equip it with necessary furniture and teaching aids for effective teaching and learning. We will transform the state. We will develop education because it is the best legacy that we can bequeathe to our children. “Knowledge brings about the development of the mind, soul and the entire being. Every parent should provide adequate education for their children.” Punch Ng

Ajimobi pledges to restructure BCOS
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State says a major restructuring of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS, is imminent for better service delivery. This is contained in a statement signed by Yomi Layinka, the Special Adviser to the governor on Communications and Strategy, made available to journalists on Sunday in Ibadan. It said that the governor, during an unscheduled visit to the station in Ibadan, told the management that the worn-out analogue broadcast equipment at the station would soon be replaced with state-of-the-art digital facilities. Mr. Ajimobi, according to the statement, called for attitudinal change and paradigm shift among the workers, saying it was the only way his vision for the transformation of the BCOS could be realised. “The governor assured that no worker would be sacked, but made it clear that each worker would be moved to his or her area of core competence within the public service,” the statement said. Mr. Ajimobi, according to the statement, challenged the management and staff of the BCOS to redouble their efforts toward the performance of their primary role of educating, informing, entertaining the public. It said the governor commended the workers for their support for his administration since 2011, urging them not to rest on their oars, realising the challenges ahead. “I am here to promote the effectiveness, proficiency and efficiency of workers, irrespective of the political party you have sympathy for. “I am a manager and I know there is need for attitudinal, structural and policy changes here. “In style, attitude and paradigm, there is need for change, because if you keep doing the same thing the same way, you will keep getting the same result,” the statement quoted him as saying. According to the statement, the governor said that the era of workers sauntering about is gone and there is no more room for playing politics and gossiping during official hours. The statement said Mr. Ajimobi told the workers that his mission was not to witch-hunt anyone, but to encourage them to be more dedicated and committed to their duties. Source: PremiuTimesNg

Oyo Govt, Police And Bankers Partner On Security
The Oyo State Government says it plans to partner with Police and bankers to ensure the safety of financial institutions. The State Government says that despite the paucity of funds, it remains committed to the maintenance of peace and security in the state. Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum aimed at securing the operational premises of banks and other financial institutions in the state on Tuesday, the Governor’s aide, Mr Segun Bolarinwa, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that financial institutions and major business areas are well secured against attacks. The convener of the meeting, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adeleye Oyebade, noted that the meeting was necessary in the face of recent threats to banks in some states in the south west. The meeting, according to him, would provide templates for further engagements towards achieving better security in affected areas. He added that proactive measures must be consented to by all stakeholders involved. The bankers’ forum also asked for an increase in the deployment of armored personnel carriers to banks and also sued for quicker response time to distress calls. Source: Channels TV

Ajimobi to raise IGR from N1.5m to N5m Ibadan—Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has said he intends to raise the internally generated revenue of the state from paltry N1.5 billion to N5bn. During a recent visit of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria to the state, the governor asked for their support in raising the IGR of the state. Ajimobi said, “More importantly, we need your support in our state in the area of IGR in terms of presenting propositions that will assist us in our internally generated revenue drive.” According to him, such partnership will assist his government in meeting its financial needs, especially as regards payment of salaries as well as execution of other development projects that will have direct impact on the people. Also speaking with Vanguard through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, the governor said the full roll out of the IGR was yet to commence. He was optimistic that when the generation of the IGR begins in earnest in few weeks, the state will overcome some of its teething financial challenges.’’ When Vanguard called the State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr. Waheed Olojede, he said there are disparities in the payment o f workers’ salaries. Oyo Assembly gets list of commissioners today NINE months after his second term inauguration, Oyo State governor, Chief Abiola Ajimobi is set to present an initial list of 13 prospective commissioners to the Oyo State House of Assembly today. According to sources, the list which will be made up of technocrats and politicians of note and is expected to pass smoothly as all those on the list are those without political or professional ‘baggage’. The governor is submitting the list of commissioners, just a week after doing same with those of local council chairmen. The source told The Guardian that the governor took his time before arriving at the list which he has held close to his chest since a couple of weeks ago . The governor has received some criticism for not appointing his cabinet since last year, but Government House sources told The Guardian that when the list is made public, Ajimobi’s critics would appreciate his caution and foresight. Last week, the State House of Assembly screened the list of local council nominees and is expected to do same next week for commissioners. This development is expected to soothe frayed nerves among politicians in the state, who have been clamouring for a full state cabinet. Another source who spoke with The Guardian said; ‘’ The state has been a beehive of activities, since the beginning of the year and the state Governor has been involved in so many of them. He has watched and picked a suitable time to do these things without putting himself under pressure. ‘’Expectedly and understandably, there may be misconceptions about his motives, but it is now clear that there have been nothing untoward in his motives.” A top opposition politician who craved for anonymity told The Guardian that the issue of cabinet appointment is long overdue. ‘’It is about time he chose his cabinet. People are even beginning to wonder if it will happen again, or maybe he wants to govern without a cabinet.” Source
