Ajimobi owing us 5 months pay, LAUTECH doctors cry out
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) in Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, has appealed to the Abiola Ajimobi Government in Oyo state to pay their five-month outstanding salaries. President of the association, Dr Seb Oiwoh called on all well-meaning citizens of the state, stakeholders, elder statesmen, members of the state House of Assembly and the general public to help them prevail on the state government over the issue. His appeal was contained in a statement he signed on behalf of the doctors. The doctors urged the government to do the needful so as to reaffirm its full commitment to residency training. “We want a full completion and installation of infrastructure and equipment, payment of our entitlements as resident doctors. “We also call for the payment of our salaries as members no longer have funds to come to work, feed, continue unusual self sustained residency training and social responsibility,” he said. The NARD members said that it would be exactly five months that they last collected salary, despite rendering essential services to life. They said that some other perennial hydra-headed problems bedevilling the hospital had hampered service delivery. They listed such problems to include a lack of commitment to residency training, incomplete and uninstalled infrastructure. Other factors listed are poor doctors’ welfare, epileptic and grossly unsatisfactory payment of salaries and other entitlement of residency training to resident doctors. “If we are being owed November and December 2015 salaries in March 2016, we cannot even project when we shall begin to receive 2016 salaries. The highest level of understanding and maturity been displayed by our Resident Doctors should not be used as a whip against us. “As it stands today, our members can no longer fulfil our daily obligations not to talk of attending to other pertinent issue beckoning our attentions. “Embarrassment has been our lot; i.e. from our children schools, our landlords and even in the market with the resultant effect of no money for food, no means of transport to work,” the statement read in part. They said that they have ensured uninterrupted services across board, not minding their perennial as well as current problems overburdening their “very resilient and understanding members’’. “Asking us to continue to discharge our service with maximal effort without being paid is like flogging a dead horse so as to move it on by force,” it said. LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, was inaugurated in 2011, with the mandate to deliver quality, accessible and affordable healthcare services to the host community and the country at large TheNewsNigeria

Oyo Farmers, Herdsmen Clash: CP Intervenes Constant dialogue on the need for respect of rules of engagement and peaceful co-existence is a major tool for eradicating communal clashes arising from grazing on farmlands across Nigeria. The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adeleye Oyebade, made the recommendation while addressing various stakeholders in at least 5 agrarian Local Government Areas in the Oke Ogun axis of Oyo State. The Police Commissioner pointed out that the recommendation was the way forward in the bid to control and avoid incessant communal clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers. He stressed the need for all concerned parties to realise and respect that there are boundaries from both sides that must be respected in the interest of peace. Oyebade emphasised that the peace accord jointly signed by both Fulani herdsmen and farmers at the Police Headquarters in Ibadan, would be implemented and enforced to the letter as the accord spelt out individual roles for all involved. Some traditional rulers were prominent features at all the meetings as some of them were accused of granting permit to cattle rearers without consent of farm owners. On the side of the Fulani herdsmen, they claimed that some of the farmers have poisoned water sources for their cattle, making them suffer huge losses resulting from the death of their poisoned cattle. Having listened to all involved, the Oyo State Police boss ordered that the agreement contained in the earlier peace accord must be obeyed. He added that there should be no more underage boys as grazing guides during the scheduled time frame now established for grazing. Oyebade warned that no farmer should poison or harm any cattle, but should rather report any infringement to the Police. He also ordered the newly deployed DPOs in affected communities to ensure that they do not take sides, even as they respond promptly to distress call. ChannelsTV

Oyo Assembly passes N173b budget
The Oyo State House of Assembly yesterday approved N173, 769,404,444 billion as the amount to be spent by the government during the fiscal year. N100,651,599,183 billion is for Recurrent Expenditure and N73,117,805,261 billion for Capital Expenditure. The lawmakers passed the budget, having considered the outcome of deliberations by its Public Finance and Appropriation Committee headed by Bolanle Agbaje. Ms. Agbaje observed that the budget performance of the preceding year was rather low due to the paucity of funds, but noted that the government has adopted the modified zero based budgeting for a more realistic approach. She added that there was critical consideration of items of expenditure to ensure that priority is given to the basic need of socio-economical development of the state. Speaker Michael Adeyomo directed the clerk to communicate the outcome to Governor Abiola Ajimobi for his assent. Thenation

Oyo workers serve Ajimobi 7-day strike notice
Organised labour in Oyo State has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Oyo State Government to settle over five months arrears of salaries owed workers. The ultimatum was issued on Tuesday in Ibadan by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Negotiation Council (JNC). Mr Waheed Olojede, the State NLC Chairman, who spoke at a news conference, said that the seven -day ultimatum would commence on Wednesday, March 30 and lapse on Thursday, April 7. He said that the unions had considered the prevailing condition of workers and pensioners with five months unpaid salaries and the failure of government to accede to previous requests. Government and the unions in 2015 signed a memorandum of understanding on how the salaries would be paid. Olojede said that the unions had written to the state government requesting for a meeting, which he claimed the government failed to accept. Olojede said that the situation had reduced workers to state of poverty, adding that their productivity, diligence and absolute commitment would be hinged on how the workers were treated. “If government fails to meet the leadership of the labour movement in the state, we may not be able to guarantee continued industrial peace beyond the stipulated time,” he said. Oyo state eyes revenue from solid minerals
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state announced today a two-pronged action plan to tap revenue from agriculture and solid minerals at a forum of stakeholders in Ibadan. While speaking on his administration’s efforts at improving the state’s internally-generated revenue, Ajimobi said an arrangement had been concluded to also shift attention to mining activities as money spinner. “The mining sector will be critically looked into as there are federal and state’s laws that stipulate the need for miners to get government’s approval before embarking on mining activities”, he said. The governor said that henceforth, approval for mining activities by mining agents should be sought from the state government through traditional rulers in the affected communities . “Government agencies will be visiting communities to enlighten royal fathers and community people on ways to go about this without undermining the necessary inputs of the government as it had always been”. The traditional rulers who attended the consultative meeting included the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, the Onipetu of Ijeru, Oba Sunday Oyediran, the Akibio of Ilora, Oba Stephen Oyeniyi and the representative of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Chief Samuel Sobaloju. Also, local chiefs, local government transition committee chairmen and other stakeholders in the 33 local council areas of the state were in attendance. thenewsnigeria.com.ng/2016/04/oyo-state-eyes-revenue-from-solid-minerals/

Oyo State Embraces Farming To Stave Off Economic Crisis
As a result of the persisting economic woes facing the country, the Oyo State Government has decided to diversify its economy into farming and mining with a view to improving the financial status of the state. To ensure a successful diversification of process, the government recently organised an Agriculture Initiative Stakeholders’ Consultative Forum, held at the House of Chiefs, Parliament Building, Ibadan, during which the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, attributed the pervading economic woes to the country’s failure to save for a rainy day during the oil boom, worsened by neglect of agriculture. He disclosed that the forum was aimed at getting stakeholders in his administration to diversify the economy of the state through the exploration of aggressive, all-inclusive and sustainable agricultural value chain. According to him, the dwindling allocation from the federation account owing to the fall in the price of crude oil in the international market had called for massive investment in farming. “We did not save for the raining day when there was oil boom in the country. We relied heavily on income from oil. But we have all been jolted into reality now that a barrel sells for an all-time low of $30. Nigeria has depended so much on oil which has now lost its value at the international market. So we have to look for alternative sources of revenue through aggressive investment in agriculture. “The fall in oil price has done more good than harm as it has opened our eyes to the effectiveness of mechanised farming as our saving grace,” he said. One thing I know for sure is that the drop in oil prices is good for the South-west and Nigeria in general
Everyone is now looking inwards.
