Nigerian Appointed as New York Police Commander
Elated by the appointment of a Nigerian, Ms. Olufemi Obe, as the precinct Commander of the New York Police Department (NYPD), the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora congratulated her. The committee, in a statement by its Chairperson, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa (APC, Lagos), also lauded Ogwunike sisters, Nneka and Chinyere, who are the first siblings to be drafted as number one picks into two major basketball teams in the United States. Obe, on her part, is the first black from the sub-Saharan Africa to have occupied such position in the history of New York Police Department. A computer scientist and public administrator trained at the City College and Government Marist College, Deputy Inspector Obe was appointed as Commander of the 28th Precinct in New York City to replace Deputy Inspector Kevin Williams. She joined the New York City Police Department in February 1994 and rose through the ranks. While Nneka is number one draft pick to Los Angeles Sparks, Chinyere is number one draft pick to the Connecticut Sun. Both of them are graduates of Stanford University who hail from Imo State. The House committee while wishing them success in their various careers noted that millions of Nigerians are excelling all over the world and stressed the need for Nigeria to tap into the enormous talents and successes of Nigerians in diaspora for national development. - See more at: reportingnigeria.com/2014/08/house-applauds-nigerian-appointed-new-york-police-commander/#sthash.kF8rjGnr.dpuf

Ireland elects first black mayor
A Nigerian man who arrived in Ireland as an asylum seeker seven years ago has become the country's first black mayor. Rotimi Adebari has been elected as first citizen of Portlaoise in County Laois. The 43-year-old fled from Nigeria in 2000 because of religious persecution. After a few weeks, he and his family settled in the County Laois town. In 2004, he was elected in the local elections as an independent councillor and on Thursday he became mayor. The move was the result of a voting pact between Fine Gael, Sinn Fein and independent councillors. The father-of-four has completed a masters degree in intercultural studies at Dublin City University and now works for Laois County Council, co-ordinating an integration project for local immigrants. Mr Adebari said it was a great honour to become Portlaoise's first citizen, but that praise should be given to the people who elected him three years ago. "Ireland is really changing. The immigrant community in the town has been growing, especially since the accession countries joined the European Union on enlargement in 2004," he said. However, he added: "That is not to say that I did not have my own share of the prejudice that would be out there against maybe Nigerians, or immigrants or asylum seekers." "But I don't let the attitude of a very small minority over-shadow the fact that the people are wonderful."

That's akin to a Female being Nigeria's president Yep mehnnnn. I'm impressed. "Sagbo isn't the first black in Russian politics. Another West African, Joaquin Crima of Guinea-Bissau, ran for head of a southern Russian district a year ago but was heavily defeated."

- In 2007, Taofick Okoya, created a doll that Nigerian girls could identify with
- 43-year-old based his Queens of Africa dolls on country's biggest tribes
- They cost roughly £4.50 and aim to promote strong feminine ideals
A man who couldn't find a black doll in the shops as a gift for his niece decided to take matters into his own hands. In 2007, Taofick Okoya, 43, created his own doll that Nigerian girls could identify with by recreating their skin colour and style - and it is now so successful that it is outselling Barbie. The doll, which is called Queens of Africa, comes with traditional outfits and accessories and costs around £4.50.
The dolls' look is modelled on three of the country's biggest tribes and aims to promote strong feminine ideals, like love, peace and endurance. The doll is now so popular that, according to Reuters, it is selling up to 9,000 units a month - a staggering 15 per cent of the country's toy market. But the Queens of Africa aren't just selling in their home country. Thanks to the doll's online presence, customers are coming from as far as America, Brazil and Europe.

Interview with 20 Year Old Millionaire Stock Trader – Elijah Oyefeso

20 year old Elijah Oyefeso isn’t your typical uni dropout. In fact, he’s now a stock-trading high roller driving three sports cars (2 featured on The Daily Mail today). After just 4 months at Buckingham University studying International Football Business Management, Elijah decided to leave, telling Student Cheddar “Uni was decent, my course was very standard but at the end of the day it just wasn’t my passion. I found that I really started to fear the fact of working under someone else”.
Elijah, who grew up in South London now makes over £26,000 a month trading ‘binary options’. Binary options are basically estimates of an underlying asset’s performance during a given time frame. Instead of buying and selling stocks ‘in the market’, Binary Options just involves placing a bet on the direction of a stock without having to purchase a stock.
If the above hasn’t already inspired you enough then check this video of Elijah purchasing his new Lamborghini.
Interview with Elijah Oyefeso
So Elihaj, when & why did you start trading?
I started trading when I was just 17 years of age. However, I never really took it seriously until I left university. Starting early defintely helps with your general market perception, but I don’t think that it is essential!
The reason I started trading was because I was once browsing YouTube and came across a video of Tim Sykes (a famous penny stock trader) make over $5000 in a 15 minute video! I thought ‘if he can do it, why can’t I?!’.
What does a typical day for you involve?
A typical day for me involves getting up quite early to get a general awareness of the market, and I often start trading at around 10am. After I have finished trading (this varies between 30 minutes to 3-4hours) I go to the gym to let off some steam! I also put a lot of focus in to starting other businesses (I have around 5 projects going off at the minute). I go to my local church 3 times a week and I think most of my success comes from my faith.

The way my people are going, we might in future have to create an Oduduwa Republic in Europe or America. Greatness is in our blood. I'm always proud of my ancestry. Thank God I don't have to leach to a known eastern tribe before I can get a voice.
