Our Slaves, Yorubas, shed their blood in these lands, were removed from their own and their families, came stripped of their property, were forced by the scourge of forced labor, brought their customs and their gods as hope of evading destination imposed by colonization. They were imposed the tyrant wisely creating a syncretism with the gods conquerors, thus resulting in the wonderful collective idiosyncrasy that enriches our culture today in spite of all efforts against him, keeping alive our religious roots.
Yoruba religion or Regla Ocha-Ifa has always been defamed, attacked, badly treated, even overlooked in history. Our seas, fields and cities are witnessing the confirmation of our legitimacy.
We are marginalized and labeled as outlaws, our religion was in the penal code as a criminal offense, there were taboos such as not to let initiate children and the initiates could not be part of the governmental system, even, some were expelled from their jobs for their beliefs in religious openness and gained strength as well and woke up, the real strength of the Yoruba Religion.
Our gods and ancestors, with their strength values have made our days and more than Religion, Music and Dance, have formed our own culture and Cuban.
Since its release, our ancestors, men and women, joined the freedom movement in Cuba and most active in the Wars of Independence, personalities as Antonio Maceo, José Maceo, Guillermo Moncada, Quintín Banderas, Felipe Espinola, Aracelio Churches Celia Sanchez, Juan Almeida Bosque, among others, stood out in the struggle for the freedom of Cuba. Yoruba is immensely blood with the foundations of our independence and sovereignty were created, with blood and sweat defended Yoruba students shot by the Spanish army medicine, but also the Yoruba blood has been shed in the internationalist missions release of several countries such as Ethiopia, Mozambique, Haiti, Angola, Congo, Yemen, Nicaragua and Granada, in short, that have called us, we've been there.
The Yoruba of Cuba have always accepted them all as equal and history records that have not attacked any religion, even forgive our conquerors accepting their gods among us, we colonized, had to adapt to a new life and imposed without proselytizing We have spread in the world.
