Nigeria is blessed with many products which are good enough for foreign exchange, especially in the wake of the falling price of the naira against the dollar. From agricultural product to mineral resources and oil by products. Of great addition in recent weeks is the production of made-in-Nigeria cars. But, of great importance is the production of locally-made fabrics popularly called Adire Yoruba, meaning ‘tie and dye’. The fabrics are being worn by prominent Nigerians who believe that as one of Nigeria’s heritages, it has to be jealously guarded and promoted as well.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state, Adekunle Gold (a popular Nigerian artiste) are among several prominent Nigerians to have worn the Adire, but not many are aware of the production processes. Naij.com went to Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, located the factory in Asero where the fabric is being made and spoke with those who work in the factory. Our correspondents also took a tour round the processes involved in its production, and have pictures and a documented video to show as follows:
