Omo Oba of the Source I saw one with the title araba of offaland...he even have pics with d present ooni...wearing crown and stuff. colonial pikin, I was trying to tag you but couldn't find you. Sadly it looks like the Ooni is not interested in preserving this as his face is fully turned to Christianity... Omo Oba of the Source, what exactly do you think can be done to halt this?? Soon this ranking that we are trying to understand will soon scatter if other malevolent elements enter.... I honestly do not know what can be done considering the rot is everywhere - everyone's eyes are out for the mulla and visa; tradition can go to blazes. The Babalawo Olodu should come up with titles for or revert to the use of Oluwo for Ifa chiefs outside of Ife rather than replicate the same titles elsewhere. It defeats the purpose of the history attached and the preservance to certain houses - they can just come to Ife and be given these titles instead.

AgbongbonAccording to sources was the first son of Orunmila and ranked next to him. More detail is yet to be dug up on this office but it is restricted only to people from Oke Igeti (Ile Seru family compound in Ife). This title and that of Araba are ranked tops. The Agbongbon upon vacancy selects who is to be Araba from Oke Itase house while the Araba does the same for Agbongbon during vacancy. Agbongbon is generally regarded as the deputy to Araba. Here's the picture of the present Agbongbon

I don't understand this recent adoption of white/caucasian looking folks into our stuff o! But I know our own people here are doing these things for money, visa and relevance. And some are so naive that anything looking white excites them for no reason. them go just learn the hard way like us in the diaspora....

Omo Oba of the Source, thanks for the clarification. a question i have is, does every area have its own Araba, Agbongbon etc? eg Araba for Ife, Araba for Osogbo, Agbongbon for Ife, Agbongbon for Oshogbo etc etc? and if so how many areas altogether are recognised? also who is Babaluwo Olodu that you earlier said should come up with a diffferent title for caucasian Ifa devotees?

Osoronga
Yes, every area now seem to have its Araba and 15 babalawos who rank after unlike before when Oluwo was used with Araba et all reserved for Ife alone.
I think anyone can just organize Ifa group in his abode and tag himself Araba or maybe they go to Ife to get such a title (I doubt the latter).
The people called Babalawo Olodu are the 16 people led by Araba, Agbongbon, Tedimole etc. they are also called 'Awo Ooni'. And in preserverance of the weight of the offices as a result of it being a lineage thing and a group reserved to divinate for the Ooni; I really do not think anyone outside Ife should wear such tags - it does not only make the 16 awo in Ife look ordinary, it also blurs the history behind each office because most people would think Araba of say Ibadan is at par with Araba of Ife and going to either one makes no difference.
In the view of the above and more, I felt other names should ne coined for groups of awos in other places (not just whites) to prevent the replication of these offices. It is like having Osoronga of YorubaParapo, Osoronga of Facebook, Osoronga of twitter, Osoronga of Linkedin etc - when Osoronga of YorubaParapo is the actual Osoronga and should be left as such. Does this make sense?

TedimoleIt was originally coined as a name tag for a particular babalawo from Ilare Quarters of Ife whose everyday 'job' is to sit at the temple receiving guests on behalf of other awo - specifically the Araba. Being that all he does is to sit on the floor of the temple/shrine (while others are there or not), he was called Te idi mole - to sit or in direct tams press butt on the earth. This title is reserved solely for the autochthonous people of Ilare. Here's a picture of the present Tedimole:

AmosunThe son of Orunmila whose duty it was/is to carry the metal staff with palm fronds around it which Orunmila used as a walking staff. All Awon Ooni (Babalawo Olodu) have this staff which they use during ritual, festival or to meetings. The Amosun, like Araba is restricted to Oke Itase house only and apart from holding Baba Araba's staff, he is also a chief diviner for the Ooni. Here is a picture of the present Amosun: the guy in the back holding the osun.

Akoda
A ko ida - one who hangs sword. This is one of the posts that require a thorough knowledge of Ifa. (I am yet to get more details on this post) Here's a picture of the present Akoda: in Yellow.
