I even read it somewhere that it's worse than the US. You know the funny thing? Every time I see these Brazilian Yoruba videos, I noticed that most of them are usually white so I'm wondering how come the same people are racist. I might be wrong tho because I heard the racism there is in a different form.

Brazil's own racism sef is deep colorism. It's like unregulated black genocide over there. Those whites are using Yoruba culture to make money.

Honorebu, Her Highness, it is not as simple as that. Alot of those Brazilians whites have black ancestry and those who show interest in Yoruba culture it's not merely a case of money.Truth is that in the diaspora the Yoruba Religion can fetch you money regardless of if you are Black or white. It's more a case of anti-blackness and colourism. Brazil has a history of where the government sought to eliminate the Black population through miscegenation...unlike in the USA where one drop of Black makes you Black that wasn't the case for Brazil,Latin America and the Caribbean as a whole...so yes you do find those mixed folks seeing themselves as non-blacks as you gain privileges from being less Black.Majority of Brazil population is a mixed Black population so if they see themselves as non-black or less Black, there is little that can be done about that. Also note that you find even those whom you might consider to be oyinbo but are actually mixed living under the same conditions as those who are black. I see it as a product of a creole/mixed society....where the push is for further creolization, acknowledging other aspects that make up the creole culture whilst ignoring the African side. You will find Indians here who like the African elements of Trinbagonian culture but yet are racist....they will have sex with blacks and yet are racists. It's not as simple as black and white but mostly grey lol. How is their colorism any different from Naija and Africans own who bleach though? Black people as a group I consider to be generally anti-black...they dislike their own selves and it worse pass most races eh.My own is whilst I do not like it,is it not same Black people who hate themselves?I can't be too mad at those who aren't pure black who might be anti-black...even the oyinbo looking ones.

Nice analysis up there. They're not different from naija's case. Colorism is colorism. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't they have an official colorism census (I.e like America's race categories)? They have something like mocha, dark chocolate etc.

The average Indian will not deliberately seek a non-Indian person to make their child less Indian sha.Black people need to accept themselves and stop putting others above them. Yuh ancestors built only a mud hut,be damn proud you built a mud hut...

Same thing is going on in Nigeria with some people trying to identify with Jews to elevate themselves and with East Africans claiming non-African/Arab heritage. Mehn the black race is messed up psychologically.

Na so it be.I don't understand West African colorism tho...in the diaspora it is a product of slavery...oyinbo deliberately left their mixed pikins in charge when they left and for those who weren't put in charge, they got privileges o.Those structures still exist today. Why would Naija and Africans deliberately institute colorism when they are the ones who own their respective countries etc?...I just don't get it...

Don't you read where some on NL brag that whites took more people from them because they were lightskinned and more treasured to darkskinned Yorubas? I honestly try as much as possible to stay away from discussing skin color. I love my skin and I just can't be bothered to worry about why others hate their skin color.

Y'all colonialism strong tho cuz even us that went through slavery and colonialism no send for bleaching in terms of the numbers you read for African countries. No mention Jamaica btw...she is not the norm in the Caribbean with regards to bleaching .I haven't read where y'all colorism is intimately tied to power, privileges like those in the diaspora. Also that bleaching stuff is not something that has been happening centuries o.Personally I think just as we in the diaspora are out of touch with African cultures, tribal attachments and stuff...I think Africans are out of touch with the reality of racism, colorism, slavery and the power and social dynamics they create and created etc. I do see that Igbo stuff which is delusional because if Igbos are mostly Yellow as claimed then d entire of Trini is yellow .Nah them claim Jamaica...the average Jamaican no be yellow otherwise them no go bleach so much. Most of the news I see for them live they are dark skinned just like Yorubas, but it's left for Naija to believe the hype.

Also, please don't trust any statistics collected in Africa. Ask yourself, how are these people collecting their data and how is it so that 70% of Nigerians are skin bleachers when majority of NIgerians didn't even participate in any skin bleaching research. WHO just makes up shit about Africa. I thought I was the only one noticing the bolded. Smart gal. I brought it up a few times but dem claim recessive gene. They claim that 'propagandist' Yoruba journalist only takes pictures of darkskin people

Her Highness, hopefully the stats are wrong for Africa cuz d numbers not looking nice...not just for Naija regarding bleaching.Funny thing is some naija ppl will agree with the numbers...odua did mention the prevalence of bleaching also, but as I said..hopefully they are wrong.I done die @ the "propagandist" Yoruba journalist....on a serious note I follow a couple Naija news media and I rarely saw a lightskin Igbo person in the videos.Ah well...
