I'm not a writer and I don't think I'm good at writing poems/stories. But this is just a freestyle to celebrate true love and the love of my life.
Dear Hip-hop
Dear Hiphop
I met you at age five
And you changed my life
Provided the soundtrack to my strive
This is real love for life
A love so deep and pure that it can never be broken
Love so captivating even without a voice it's outspoken
The cupid love that resonates through the mind, body, and soul
The endless love deeper than the black-hole
"Nuthin' but a G Thang" by Dr. Dre was the record
And "What's my name?" by Snoop Dogg got me surfing like the surfboard
Then Warren G showed me how to "Regulate" in the G-funk era
When Tupac told me "Brenda's got a baby" I knew the love would last forever
Afterwards, I became West Coast hiphop head
The slogan became West Side till I die
The dubs were forever up
Chuck Taylor and khakis became my uniform
Lumberjack all buttoned up
You raised me
And I listen to you through the good and bad times
Not cos I had to atimes
But cos you help me find peace within
That's what you do
You give hope to the hopeless
Happiness to those who're in pursuit of it
Help the hustler hustle harder
Make the deep thinker think deeper
You relate the stories and experiences we all can relate to
Hence we all call you the ghetto CNN
The voice of the voiceless
Resting place for the restless
An advantage for the disadvantaged
A soothing melody for those locked up cos the mind can never be caged
You're my best friend and nobody believes in you more than I do
Every time I think I know you
You always surprise me and remind me of why I fell in love with you
You're the air that I breathe
And I'll always love you

And I'll always love you You certainly more than come across to just liking Hip Hop and all she has to offer.
Over the years it certainly have left an indelible mark on your person and seem to have provided positive timeline and milestone in your journey of life despite the genre was very much misunderstood at the start but it has still gone on to provide good and bad influences (depending on who you're talking to) to the world of music all over.
Dr. Dre, Snoop and the rest will no doubt will be accorded their pride of place in the Hip hop world for all the beautiful messages they brought forth and how can we forget Tupac? the best of them all in my books and his messages are ever direct and resonances with the last man on the street and i do share a lot of his opinion especially on the black man's struggle past, present and future.
Overall good poem and reminds us how personal the hip hop culture and world his to the average black dude, it's not just a music but a culture, a message and a movement.
Love the poem . . . . claps claps claps!!!

Shymmex, I enjoyed reading that ode of yours. When hip hop finally hooked up with my constant travelling companion (a sony walkman), during my youth, the three of us became inseparable for a time.

Loool. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks a lot, Sir. Err, I'm thinking of developing my skills in poetry in this section and hopefully, you'll help me grow as I proceed. I've never really tried poetry and it's never too late to start.

And I know technical manuals do not count.
