Nice thread! This is exactly the kind of thinking we need to push to improve agricultural productivity. A crucial aspect of getting smaller farmers to adopt such improvements will be financing, which is why efforts to give farmers official title to their land are so important; it's also why I've been stressing the importance of mobile banking off the ground. With official title to their land and mobile banking, farmers will find it easier to borrow to fund things like herbicide and drought-resistant seeds, soil and crop sensors, and so on, which will help them break out of the cycle of mere subsistence. Correct! So farmers don't even have titles to their farmland and we're talking about grazing reserve? WTF! Mobile banking in Nigeria ehn! E get as e be. Mobile banking will revolutionalize a lot of things. Nigerians in diaspora would be able to bank in Nigeria effortlessly and you know what that means.

You think the American farmers are or were tech savvy? They hire consultancy groups to help with this. For one of my projects, I worked with a company to help redesign an app for farmers to communicate with other farmers and their employees. We had to teach them how to use it. Some have departments that deal with all this techy thing. As for lower-class farmers, the government can set up a committee to educate them.
