Yorubas are the most represented in this list tho. www.webometrics.info/en/node/99That's some positive sign there but still.. Animalu really tried but... If at all anything is going to come out of Nigeria, It will most likely come from UI

Honorebu, You have to realize that there is an almost 2 centuries worth of technological knowledge gap between the rest of the developed world and Africa. Technological inventions like cell phones that are easily accessible to all is kinda bridging the massive gap that exists between both worlds, but fundamentally we still aren't at the same level, lest we fool ourselves. That is one. Second, these countries where you see top notch scientists spend Billions of Dollars, Yen, Pounds, Euros etc on just R and D, significant proportions of their GDPs go into pure research. How much do you think countries in Africa, many of whom aren't even able to feed themselves yet spend on Research and Development... Nil, Zero, Zilch! The scientists you see on that list are even trying. Since the incentives are absent, and all governments care about is being spoon fed for everything they need by the West and Asia, the motivation for self development is lacking in most African countries, hence they are all technological feather weights. Sadly, unless these things change, we will continue to be stuck at the bottom of the ladder.

I agree 101% with you on this There are people who have what it takes in Nigeria but it seems Nigeria and all African countries at large are dream killers What do you think are the solutions to this? Short term and Long term

The thing about this is that it further solidifies the myopic/racist theory of whites having superior I.Q

Well, I personally know Yoruba people doing crazy research work in pure mathematics, if that counts. Then again, these people are from families that have been "upper middle class" or better for 4 generations or so. Speaking only about the diaspora, one thing you should keep in mind is that most of us who are now residing in Western countries haven't been here that long, and the immigrant mentality which looks down on "knowledge for its own sake" in favor of career-oriented subjects (e.g. engineering, medicine and law) is therefore still strong with us. How many Nigeria-born and raised parents do you know who would gladly encourage their children to pursue PhDs in physics or chemistry? How many children of such parents can forget all the hardships their families have gone through, and do what interests them, even if it means they'll be broke into their late 30s? We aren't particularly unique in this regard - South Koreans are still obsessed about the fact that none of their researchers have ever won a "hard" Nobel either, while the Japanese have won 22. It takes a certain amount of time and a sense of security for people raised in poverty to be willing to go into fields that don't promise to pay well. As for all that race and IQ nonsense, it's not like the lack of Korean Nobel prize winners has made a difference in how they are viewed; on the other hand, black Africans (i.e. mainly Nigerians) are already by far the best-educated immigrants in America, and yet that doesn't seem to have changed the minds of many racists. By far the biggest determinant of how people are viewed by those of other races seems to be how prosperous they are, rather than Nobel prizes or the lack thereof. That's why gulf Arabs are viewed as "better" than those from places like Egypt or Algeria, even though they are far lazier and far more obsessed with religion. It's also why Korea went from being seen as a land of cheap "love you long time" whores to some sort of techno-paradise, and the Chinese have gone from being jokes who run cheap restaurants to cash-rich people buying up cities like Vancouver, Sydney and London. If we want people to stop looking down on us, we need to make our home countries rich - it's as simple as that. The day any black African country enters the ranks of the developed (or at least, fast-developing) world is the day all the racists will suddenly "discover" all sorts of made-up reasons that these particular black Africans are not like the rest of the other "low IQ" ones.
