Short_Biscuit, Nice find! Too bad the government didn't provide the data in a CSV or Excel file, to allow for analysis in a spreadsheet.

Just for comparison, this is the 2006 Nigerian population census in tabular form. Compare the percentages. Just by eyeballing these numbers and comparing to those provided in the table by Short_Biscuit, it's clear that the SW has the highest per capita subscriber rate for both voice and internet usage - and it's also clear that it's not just about Lagos, either. All of this just goes to confirm what we knew from other data, and what the migration statistics already make clear, namely that our region is clearly the most prosperous part of the country. All the online huffing and puffing can't prevent people from realizing the truth, which is why they keep coming to our part of the country despite the endless boasting about their imaginary "superiority".

Exactly. These data/numbers are more reliable than the bogus census figures as they are devoid of political/tribal/sentimental colorations. I learned from an investment banker friend that a lot of multinational companies that end up investing in Nigeria commission extensive feasibility studies that factor these sort of data into their decision-making process. The higher the population, the bigger the market and the higher the spending power = No brainer. Oyo and Ogun numbers alone (doesn't include Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Kwara/Kogi or even Lagos) swallows up the entire 5 SE states.

All the online huffing and puffing can't prevent people from realizing the truth, which is why they keep coming to our part of the country despite the endless boasting about their imaginary "superiority". Either that, or the census figures are completely flawed..... ...Or a mixture of both. How can Lagos have just 6.44% of the population, but magically has 13.17% of voice callers and 13.82% of Internet users? How can Oyo be said to be 3.99% 0f Nigeria, but magically has 5.11% of voice callers and 5.28% of Internet users? Ogun can be explained by recent explosion in population.... but still I can bet my last pence that even in 2006 it was way under-enumerated as well. 2.61% of Population against 5.79% of voice callers and a whooping 6.01% of Internet users. Even Osun over performed, 2.45% of population vs 2.49% of phone users. Ondo is below, but just only slightly. While Ekiti is the only SW state lagging behind by a considerable margin. Even though in absolute numbers, both states are still gaining numbers. All this is despite that facts that censuses are supposed to count EVERYBODY , while these telecom figures can only be generated from just a segment of it.

A state like Rivers is purported to be muuuuch richer than Oyo, and is also said to have about the same population according to that bogus 2006 census.... lol! YET, despite the supposed wealth gap and equal population status, (5.591 Million Oyo and 5.185 Million Rivers) Difference of 406K people
What do the figures show instead?
7,833,796 Active voice lines in Oyo state and 6,169,338 active voice lines in Rivers. A difference of 1.665 MILLION people. If Oyo was the richer one nko then? What would we be seeing?
NPC better not Bobo us in 2018 during their census. ......

Well.. my explanation for this is that the Telcos didn't supply enough sim-cards to Rivers and indeed the entire SE/SS. They conspired with the Yolobas to deprive the SS/SE states of enough sim-cards -- another form of marginalization. That's my conspiracy theory.

Short_Biscuit , This is also very much in line with the statements of the LASG back then in 2006 that Lagos state had been way undercounted , or figures being deliberately cut short for political reasons, and I will extend that statement to the rest of the South West! It also directly correlated 100% with the projections of the LASG that lagos was around 14 or was it 16 million then and around 24+ Million in 2015, based on their own headcount. Population determines number of reps and state allocations amongst other things...so what do you expect in a country like Nigeria? who wants a Yoruba dominated South in the House, or a strong Yoruba caucus in the house pushing their own agenda without needing extra support? Not in Nigeria... lai lai! The SW is the most populated region in Nigeria, absolutely sure about that. If Nigeria were to be a sane country, population figures in mid 2016 should look something like this: Lagos - 28 Million Ogun - 12 Million Oyo - 12 Million Osun - 6 Million Ondo - 5.8 Million Ekiti - 3.5 Million (2nd poorest state in the South)

I figured out a while back that the 2006 census was 'rigged' in favour of the North and to shortchange the SW in particular in the South. Whoever was in-charge of doctoring the final figures of that census exercise blatantly under-reported the SW figures as is now obvious. The aim was to ensure (by any means) that Lagos didn't come tops ahead of any Northern state. I imagine that they must have been SHOCKED by the raw numbers from the exercise even back then, and felt the need to doctor the results (especially those from Lagos) to retain their political edge. But I find this instructive though, in a sad way, coz it means that those Northerners are willing to (if and when they deem it necessary) just change figures running into MILLIONS just to maintain the status quo and give themselves an edge politically. We are in deep shyt with those desperados, I tell you.

It is so sad really, I tell you. probably reducing the Lagos and SW figures while using the excesses to prop up their own states, so that the final addition would match that of the UN projection. DOn't you find it funny that before 2006, the UN was estimating Nigeria's population in 2006 to be around 140 million, and GBAM smackdab the NPC conducted their so called census and arrived at that same number? Lmao!! No shame at all. some UN caucasian officers sitting in an armchair somewhere in NY now knows everything about Nigeria enough to be projecting its population decades ahead or what? In a sane country like Germany, their census of 2001 which happened to be their first since the reunification of Germany , they discovered that their own government had been overestimating their own population by about 2 Million people or so. They were surprised a bit, but they were quite happy by the revelation, and they amde the necessary adjustments. Others do theirs and arrive at higher or lower figures even if just slightly... But in Nigeria... No way. they are not that smart. That of Lagos is ust out there because they were the only state that had enough financial resources to run a parallel census with the FG , which would mean that they had to pay their own workers on the job and print their own forms. It goes beyond just lag. Ifo, Ado Odo-Otta, Shagamu and Obafemi Owode were already huge LGs even in 2006.

To be honest with you, in light of all these facts I'm not really looking forward to the next census either coz who's to say they won't repeat the same thing the next time around? Shebi na to redistribute the numbers? They understand the far-reaching implications of a real and representative census as this will change the political landscape of the country, a transition they dread and would do everything in their power to prevent from coming to pass.
