Mountain Top University (MTU), the nation’s 61st private university, will begin operations next Monday.
The institution, owned by the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, will welcome 270 students for the 2016/2017 academic session.
It will take off with two colleges, Basic and Applied Sciences and Humanities, Management and Social Sciences.
At a briefing at the university campus on KM12 Lagos-Ibadan Expressway yesterday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Elijah Ayolabi, said the event would feature the unveiling of facilities.
Ayolabi said students would be given a mobile learning device on gratis with 24-hour electronic library resources.
He said:”The Mountain Top University is a dynamic centre of excellence for the production of top-rated morally sound graduates of distinction, who can compete globally.
“We have begun collaborative discussion with some foreign universities and professional bodies in order to make our products employers of labour and the most sought after in the labour market.”
Though faith-based, the VC said the university would open its doors to all, provided students can adhere to the guidelines.
He was joined by the Registrar, Ademola Boboye and the Chairman, Scholarship Committee, Prof Emmanuel Ayedun.
Babalola said the university aspires to have a centre of excellence in Biotechnology.
Two other key areas of interest are music and geophysics.
“We expect that these three programmes will start in the 2016/2017 academic session,” Babalola said.
He said the second phase of the university’s development would be in Technology and Engineering.
The third phase is Medicine. All will be at the permanent site, which is two kilometres away from the present site.
Ayedun said the university hopes to convert the present site to its postgraduate school.
