Yorubas in Italy form national body
The Yoruba National Community Italy (YNCI) is a socio-cultural group aimed at fostering unity and love among all the Yoruba people living in the country.
It will also promote the Yoruba culture in Italy and encourage Yorubas in the country to take part in economic development of their home country.
The YNCI will also be in charge of organising the annual “National Yoruba Day” and provide legal, moral and social support to registered members.
Dr. J. I. Adediwura, the General Secretary of the YNCI, said the inaugural meeting that culminated in the birth of the Association was held in Florence on 8th May 2012 while the ratification of the Constitution was done in Padua on 15th July 2012.
The Yorubas are one of the largest ethnic groups in Nigeria with a very rich cultural history, outstanding and unique artistic traditions.
Currently, there are about 60 million Yorubas worldwide.
The interim officials of the YNCI are: National President - Dr. Oludayo Abimbola Sonaike (Rome); National General Secretary - Dr. Adediwura Joseph. I (Venice); Associate Secretary - Dr. Lanre Tytler (Latina); Financial Secretary - Mr. Adeyemi Adebayo (Florence); and Public Relations Officer - Mr. Murphy Daramola (Padua).
Dr. Adediwura said it took long to form the national body because in the past there weren’t many Yorubas in Italy.
He thanked all who worked hard to create the YNCI.
All Yorubas who are interested in forming their local chapters are encouraged to contact the National Secretariat of YNCI.
