The father of Damilola Taylor has revealed that the charity set up in the schoolboy's name will receive a donation from the makers of the new Star Wars film, thanks to actor John Boyega. 10 year-old Damilola was killed in Peckham in November 2000 after being cut in the leg by a broken bottle. Two brothers, Danny and Ricky Preddie, were subsequently jailed for his manslaughter. Damilola Taylor was walking home from a library when he was killed. Credit: Taylor family
Now, Damilola's father Richard Taylor has revealed that Mr Boyega was a close friend and had been at a library with his son, shortly before his death. The pair were filmed with Damilola by a CCTV camera along with John's sister Grace.
Mr Boyega nominated the charity set up in Damilola's name, the Damilola Taylor Trust to receive a donation from the launch of the new Star Wars film The Force Awakens. I couldn't believe it at the initial stage when we saw the email from Los Angeles. They came back to us that the Damilola Trust has been nominated by John Boyega. I was so overblown with joy, with happiness. We did not expect that John would remember. – Richard Taylor, Damilola's father Mr Taylor said Mr Boyega, who was eight at the time of Damilola's death, had been left deeply affected.
