2016 Budget: Realisable, Not Much for Nigeria- Oyibode
ABUJA-Former Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship Aspirant, Amb. Gabriel Oyibode, has expressed optimism over implementation of 2016 budget proposal presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly.
Oyibode made the assertion in an interview where he stated that the 2016 budget proposal was not too much for the country as he explained that the budget captured major developmental projects and job creation perimeters for young people.
He said the government has made adequate provision for the implementation of the budget and could be realised by the political will of the present administration.
He said: “I want Nigerians to understand that there is a concrete plan already for development of the various sectors of the economy because critically looking at the 2016 budget, there are provisions made for development and if properly implemented, there will be massive change in our nation.
“I also make mention that the 2016 budget is very realisable and that also depends on political will if the government is sincere and not distracted it will deliver.
“I don’t think the budget of N6 trillion is too much as a country. I also see it as commendable because so many development projects are captured and government is a continum where we expect improvement next year.”
Oyibode who has been on the vanguard for giving young people quality lifestyle through empowerment and engagement said the youth were being considered in the budget in the area of employment, entrepreneurial skill development and establishment.
“In the 2016 budget, I believe they have made adequate provision for the teaming youth and unemployed to carry them along. There is also prospect for the youth under this administration.
“Also the employment declaration made by the government is majorly for the youth. On the issue of the promised N5, 000 for unemployed graduates, it does not translate into development but about Nigerians because they are entitled to food, housing, health and education.
“If the government has seen in the interim that the larger population are helpless, downtrodden are suffering and making plans to alleviate their suffering I don’t see anything wrong with that,” he said.
Meanwhile, in his view the fight against corruption has been a good one. According to him the level of impunity the previous government handled the finances of this country was beyond reckless and with what President Buhari has started doing a level of sanity in the system has been restored.
“As a person I see Buhari having the country at heart and we just pray the people he is appointing will not sabotage his effort. So far so good on his corruption drive I appreciate it and we are also waiting to see the result and manifestation.
“At least those funds looted we want to see them repatriated back and we want to know those who did it according to law, and these are the expectations,” he added.
