Shittu who identified challenges confronting the development of the ICT Sector such as inadequate ICT infrastructure, poor human capacity development, inadequate /disconnected legal and regulatory framework, poor implementation of the local content, assured that the present administration would tackle them headlong.
He further pledged to implement the National Broadband Plan fully and encourage service providers to use renewable energy for powering Base Transceiver Stations to ensure improvement of quality of service.
As part of measures to enhance broadband penetration in the country, he said his Ministry would work with its counterpart, Federal Ministry of Education to foster Digital literacy content in the National Education curriculum, encourage the delivery of education via the use of smart devices.
He also said the Ministry would work with relevant government’s agencies such as TETFUND and UBEC to ensure provision of free broadband services in tertiary institutions.
On the fine imposed on MTN Nigeria by the Nigerian Communications Commission, he said President Muhammed Buhari would take a decision soon if the telecommunications provider fails to pay the fine.
He denied that the Federal Government had accepted to settle the case out of court as stated recently by the MTN.
