Nigeria, China To Deepen Partnership On Space Science Technology
Nigeria and China are to deepen their partnerships in the area of space science technology aimed at bridging the technological gaps and creating jobs in Nigeria.
Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who disclosed this on Tuesday at a media parley in Abuja, explained that Nigeria’s partnership with China was one of the major outcomes of his recent visits to China and Indonesia.
Onu also explained Nigeria and China have had long standing relationship in the area of space science, adding that the relationship would be re-invigorated and re-strengthened in the bid to diversify Nigeria’s economy and create jobs for the citizenry.
He noted that China, which is the second largest economy in the world today, attained this feat as a result of their deployment of science, technology and innovation.
He said the Republic of China would build Ground Receiving Station in Nigeria, adding that the benefits of his visit to China and Indonesia would be witnessed in the next three or four years.
Onu revealed that the Chinese Minister of Science and Technology would soon reciprocate the visit to Nigeria, to cement the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.
The minister assured that Nigeria would become the technological hub in Africa, considering the steps already taken by the present administration to resuscitate and reposition the moribund sector.
He further pointed that the approach of the administration would be to encourage manufacturing and assembling of science products in the country to create jobs and conserve the foreign exchange, adding that the era of buying science products from China would soon be over.
On his visit to Indonesia, the Minister of Science and Technology said his delegation visited the Nuclear Power Plant in the country, adding that Nigeria would explore the possibilities to generate power through nuclear energy.
According to him, hydro and gas, the sources of power supply in Nigeria, have had problems over the years.
He therefore assured that nuclear energy would be explored in the country to generate electricity for industrialization.
