The party's leader Andrew Holness, 43, vowed to create jobs, grow the economy and improve education and healthcare. Labour won 33 of the country's 63 seats in a vote with a 47% turnout, beating the People's National Party of Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller. Jamaica is heavily indebted, but austerity measures introduced by Ms Simpson Miller have led to growth. "We don't take it that we have won a prize," Mr Holness told supporters. "The cost of victory is to keep the commitments we have made." During the campaign, Mr Holness said he wanted to turn Jamaica into "the Silicon Valley of the Caribbean". Youth unemployment in the country currently stands at 38%. In 2013, under Ms Simpson Miller, the country agreed to a four-year International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan package in exchange for swapping its debt. Inflation fell to a 48-year low during her time in office. Last year GDP grew by 1.3%, according to World Bank figures. www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-35666321

During Portia Simpson-Miller tenure inflation hit a 48-year low .
-falling oil prices freed up government funds in the import-dependent country and the island's GDP grew 1.3 percent last year, according to the World Bank.
-there was stability.
Now,Holness, who is likely to be the Caribbean nation's next prime minister, has promised to create 250,000 jobs on the island of 2.7 million people and do away with income tax for many wage earners. How realistic is this?

I am glad that Miller lost the election..to me her tenure like our last Prime Minister here who was a female was a waste of time. The 250,000 jobs per year target might not be feasible but an impact can be made if Jamaica creates policies that encourages FDI especially in the industrial/manufactring sector....Jamaica have already exploited Tourism and truth be told it can only employ so much folks.
