Just heard that Buhari will be dumping the stupid and ill thought out socialist program for some sensible pragmatism. Who ever told him that it was a good idea to subsidise a country full of poor people by giving them a monthly stipend was the best way out of poverty? He was going to create an entitlement mess that would have been chaotic to manage and eventually withdraw. Who does that after just getting out of another entitlement mess called fuel subsidy?
The known way to get people out of poverty is at best, subsidize their production activities. Nigerians are hard working so get them to work. He can subsidize those learning a skill or those willing to go back to the farm. For example with farming; give them access to low interest loans, make use of the parallel rates to buy mechanized but verified farm equipment, give them access to latest farming practices to grow the yield of their crops, source processing plants from developed countries to reduce waste and most importantly, create easy access to the export market by providing infrastructure and ensuring export quality is maintained.
Those are sensible ways to ensure that we feed ourselves and export our excess output. Giving a bunch of touts weed money is just growing the worst type of nanny state possible. Reason prevailed this time around.
Let's hope he dumps a bunch of his rigid socialist tendencies. Time to reconsider the privatization of our refineries.

Watch the usual suspects rise with one voice to condemn this laudable idea. It was the most idiotic of APC campaign promises and I'm glad common sense has prevailed. It would have been a disaster if pride and ego had stopped him from jettisoning the I'll thought idea.

But he deserves the criticism though since he used the 5k to get votes. I think he needs more trips to the middle east, so he gets more exposed to more capitalism as practiced in Qatar and UAE. If those are the examples he will be amenable to, then I am good. When he sees Saudi selling Aramco gradually and also experiences the marvel of UAE and Doha then all those nonsense and feudal ideas will finally leave him. Unleash the private sector and unleash the states. Put us back on a growth path we've not seen since the curse of crude oil.

It wasn't a point emphasized during the elections jare. Aboki didn't need any campaign talkless of 5k promise to vote "mai gaskiya" and nobody will convince me Yoruba voted for him because of 5k. I hope he learns how his brothers in the middle east run their economies. We will be the better for it

I know he rigged but a good number of them voted for him.
