Violence has erupted in Agiliti Area of Mile 12 in Lagos State, Nigeria’s south west region. Eyewitness accounts say that at least four people have died, while security operatives are battling to get the violence under control. Huge plumes of smoke can been seen bellowing from a distance as houses have been set ablaze. Residents of the area have remained indoors for fear of being attacked. No one has been able to give reasons for the crisis as at the time of this report. The Lagos State Government has closed down the markets in the area temporarily, and has vowed to deal with miscreants and law breakers. The State Government is also appealing to parents to ensure that their wards are law abiding. ChannelsTV

Lagos riot update: Lagos govt shuts Mile 12 market
Lagos - Following the breakdown of violence in the Mile 12 area of Lagos state, the Lagos state government has shut down the Mile12 market. Four people were reported killed and several people were injured including policemen. Trouble started when a tricycle belonging to an Hausa driver hit a Yoruba lady trying to cross the road. The tricycle operator was asked to take the accident victim to the hospital, but he refused. This angered the Yoruba residents in the area and they attacked the tricycle operator. Other Hausa residents joined in the attack to defend the tricycle operator and this erupted into violence where four lives were lost. Security personnel were later invited to restore order. The area is presently deserted with only few passers-by and motorists plying the road. News 24

They have no authority over civilians unless it's a national emergency, and even then it should require Presidential approval. This is precisely why we need local policing, by individuals who are drawn from the communities they're policing.

This is Nigeria Lol! I know, it's crazy to think of Nigerian authorities abiding by silly things like rules, right? Na wa for our country o! The funny thing about this is that nothing will be done about it.Welcome to Nigeria! We can't even protect ourselves in our own Land. Sssad! Na today? I Can't even count the number of clashes I've witnessed in Idi-Araba between Yorubas and Hausas When we tell people the One Nigeria thing is a hoax, they call us tribalists. The only time Yorubas think deep is when things like this happen, and its only for some time. After 2 or 3 weeks, they're back to chanting Sai Baba and One Nigeria One Nigeria na.All of us go kuku die there

I heard three hausa traders were killed by area boys and shops were set on fire. Igbos are happy saying na siddon look them dey. Hausas (not fulani o) are generally peaceful and law abiding outside their homeland. But at home is a different case.
