Yoruba language
The Oyo State House of Assembly has called on parents, guardians, teachers as well as authorities in both public and private primary and secondary schools across the state, to ensure the usage of Yoruba language.
This came following a motion titled and read in Yoruba Language “Ose Pataki Lati Kaaramaasiki Lilo Ede Yoruba Laarin Awujo, Paapa Julo Ni Ile Iwe Alakobere Ati Girama Ni Ipinle Oyo”, which literally translates “it is important to ensure the usage of Yoruba language in the society, especially in primary and secondary schools within Oyo State.”
The motion was moved by Gbenga Oyekola, representing Atiba state constituency and co-sponsored by Peter Oyetunji, representing Ogo Oluwa/Surulere state constituency.
Oyekola urged the House to advise stakeholders, including the state ministry of education, permanent secretaries and all primary and secondary schools in the state to ensure the use of Yoruba language in order to save it from extinction.
The Labour Party (LP) lawmaker further urged the House to invite the Egbe Akomolede Yoruba to intimate the House on how the age-long problem can be solved.
