These Are The Finalists For the 2016 WAMAS Awards
The West Africa Mobile Awards (WAMAS), the first truly West African technology awards to recognise the region’s leading mobile and tech companies, will take place in Lagos, Nigeria next month.
Following call for applications, which closed on February 28, 2016, the organizers have announced the mobile and tech companies that have been selected for the finals of the event.
In no particular order, the finalists and their categories are listed below:

Timothy Adeleye (Glo Mobile School), Andrew Takyi-Appiah (Zeepay) Olatunde Ayilara (WaraCake), Olugbenga Agboola (PayWithCapture), and Bamal Samuel Aymard (ShoOwer)
Innovation in the Industry Award
Opera Max, Pass.ng, Asoriba, Unilever, and mPedigree Goldkeys
Social Entertainment & News Award
Sangalo Media, Amebo App, Glo Twitter Voice App, Video Messaging Service, and Cloud Interactive Associates Football
Societal Development Award
Esoko, SpellAfrica Initiative, Cellulant E Wallet, Revoda, and U-Report Nigeria
Educational & Personal Development Award
Worldreader Mobile, Pass.ng, Spell Africa Initiative, Skademy, and Tuteria
Outstanding Industry Achievement Award

These finalists, selected from submissions received from 10 countries across 3 continents, consist of the exciting mobile industry start-ups pioneering new technologies and services, and established ventures driving progress in the region.
They were selected by a prestigious judging panel featuring industry experts from Airtel, Opera, iSpace Foundation, and CcHUB through a completely comprehensive, exhaustive and systematic process – it was fully transparent.
The winners of the awards will be revealed over cocktails and canapés at the awards ceremony on April 21, 2016 in Lagos, Nigeria.
WAMAS was created to measure the fundamental impact the provision of mobile connectivity, products, and services is having on almost every aspect of society in West Africa.
The awards is supported supported by Twitter, Ad Dynamo, Mobile West Africa (MWA), AppsAfrica.com, the Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF), and many other industry-leading organisations and publications.
