Digital & IT Skills
GirlsGoIT is an ICT for development initiative initially launched in Moldova to boost the country’s entrepreneurship and innovation capacity. It does this by teaching young girls digital technologies and IT skills. It worked in partnership with UN Women, eGovernment Center, Novateca and TEKEDU, to teach young girls the digital skills they need to fully take advantage of career opportunities in the internet economy.
GirlsGoIT Summer Camp in Moldova
In 2015, it organized a summer camp in the Moldova where it taught 38 girls HTML+CSS, Bootstrap, Python and Flask. Some of the girls were from underserved communities while some were physically challenged girls. Computer Weekly reported one of the participants of the Summer Camp as saying this:
“Diana Marusic, one of the summer camp participants, said: “I am pleased that in addition to technical operations I learned about project management and acquired entrepreneurial and leadership skills. I am excited about the idea of creating a GirlsGoIT local chapter that could gather both girls and boys passionate about IT”.
