Oh...I have a lot o. Been natural since last year March and my hair is growing but not that much because I rarely use any products, everything is expensive, lol. Me I'm an akagum why waste so much money on hair when I have other needs. So I just wash with normal shampoo and conditioner and use shea butter. That's my routine. Is there any other less expensive way to promote hair growth?
Depends. Does your hair break more than it should? (black hair tends to break no matter what you do).
I don't use any fancy products, but when things don't work out for me, I change them. My hair is FULL, so growth is not my concern. I actually cut it frequently so it wouldn't grow too much because it's too much work.
honeychild , can you help here please?
Here are the products I use EVERYDAY or whenever my hair is loose:
1. Kinky-Curly Knot Today Leave In Conditioner Detangler - It WORKS!!!! Comb just glides through my hair.
2. Kinky-Curly Knot Today Curling Custard - Keeps my hair soft/have damp like feeling all day
3. Extra virgin coconut oil. My hair sucks up coconut oil. You won't even know I added oil.
When you start adding too much sugar and spice (products), your scalp clogs up and reduces growth rate. I make sure to not play with my hair or add more than 3 products per day because I have sensitive scalp. Most of us do, we just don't realize it in time. My hair has grown more than 3 inches within the past 3 months (next trim is in Dec, can't wait). I kid you not. Here are the things I did this past 3 months:
1. Managed my time wisely - less stress.
2. I drink A LOT of water - more than 4 bottles per day (my body loves water)
3. I ate more healthy - no red meat, no meal after 7pm, reduced my sugar intake by more than 75%, reduced rice-based diet, etc
4. Lost 20 pounds from 1-3.
5. Kept my hair in braids during the week and left it out during the weekends - reduced hair manipulation
6. Managed my hair carefully by detangling before combing through it like I'm fighting with it - Breaks less.
(New city, new adjustment)
Please ignore those suppl. pills like (biotin). My mom is a doctor and she always advise me not to use those things. I went against her advice and used it for one month and mehn!! Never again.
Long story short: Personally, I think not using more than the products I mentioned and changing your lifestyle is the best way to grow hair.
Sorry for the long drivel lol.
I forgot to mention that Castor Oil (as a deep conditioner) works well. It doesn't just grow hair, it strengthens it and gives it volume. In combination with coconut oil, you can use them to deep condition your hair. I use it because it gives my hair a healthy glow and defines the curl/ringlets. If you're really concerned about growth, use natural/cold pressed castor oil.
I use this one:
