Short_Biscuit the quality of our roads is another issue I've always been bothered about. Our roads are always sandy.Colonial pikin said its probably because of the soil type but I'm finding it difficult to believe that

The 'lovely' remark was directed at some wholesome pictures I sighted on the thread. But I do agree with you about our need to re-plan our cities. How that will be achieved is the million-dollar question. I imagine that it would be extremely difficult to convince some of our folks about the need and benefits of an all-encompassing Urban Renewal policy. Personally, I feel that our people need to take property maintenance more seriously. If I had my way, I'd enact a draconian law that would make it mandatory for every house to be re-painted every other year, and banish the use of zinc roofs in the entire region. These two policies will certainly give the entire region a more aesthetically pleasing look. Oohkay. With regards to the attitude of our people, I know that'll be very difficult. We need governors with iron fists.Enough of that we're preserving our Great Grand-dad's architecture nonsense .There are other things we can preserve.Another issue is the fact that all our governors can't be the same.It would have been much more easier If we had just one leader but that can only happen in a regional state.Very good point on the painting aspect and the banishing of zinc roofs(the brown zinc precisely ) There is also the issue of poor quality of roads, open drains,on-street parking and all that There's a lot to do honestly. I updated the post you quoted with some more text and an image you might find interesting. I tell you, Politics would make it difficult for any democratically elected Governor to implement the magnitude of Urban Renewal policies that the region desperately needs to take the much needed leap into the modern era, simply because they will be careful not to step on toes in order to win re-election. Only determined and daring second-term governors with billion dollars war-chest or sizable funding sources can achieve such a feat. It is definitely achievable if the will is there and the environment is enabling. Look at what Fashola accomplished in Lagos in 8-years, especially at the Lekki axis, not to mention the Light-rail project. The quality of work by Wale's Babakin's BiCourtney (whose coy was responsible for constructing the MMA2 Airport in Lagos) and the Lekki Concession Company (responsible for constructing the Lekki Toll project/construction) are enough evidences that the region's infrastructure can be revamped to meet world-class standards.

Short_Biscuit the quality of our roads is another issue I've always been bothered about. Our roads are always sandy.Colonial pikin said its probably because of the soil type but I'm finding it difficult to believe that My argument was that y'all leave the sand loose...not the soil type....hence there are no plant roots to hold it so it just blows onto the roads.Look how some governors just leave the dividers with bare soil....obviously the breeze will blow it onto the roads. The solution is to plant grass or pave the divider totally....it no be the soil type as we saw the roads for rural areas where there was grass next to the roads, they were clean...no soil on the roads.
