The fundamental problem is that Nigeria uses population to determine both federal allocations and political power, which gives overwhelming incentives to inflate the numbers. The day federal allocations are abolished and the former southern regions get an effective veto in the senate is the day Nigeria will be ready for a proper census, but not until then. My own feeling is that there's nothing intrinsically good or bad about having a larger or smaller population, and what matters is how that population is doing economically, educationally, health-wise and so on. Countries like Denmark (5 million) and Norway (4 million) are much better places to live than Nigeria with its 120+ millions, and they also have far greater international influence, let alone Australia (25 million) or Canada (36 million). That we are even arguing over which part of Nigeria has the largest number of poor and under-educated people is just another indicator of how broken a country Nigeria is. Bros, I get your point and agree with your submission, but for now and as it stands, and like you rightly observed, population is a very powerful political tool in Nigeria. Federal allocation and wealth distribution is essentially based on having a high population (besides it also being a pointer to a big enough regional market that is a magnet for FDIs), therefore there's really no incentive to arrest it. When we eventually have our much desired autonomy and hopefully sovereignty, then we will device ways of effectively managing our regional population coz even as it stands we won't be able to achieve that even if we wanted to due to 'One Nigeria'.

The Polaris-Pacesetter FTZ does look very promising, hopefully it'll not go the way of several other FTZs that are currently lying idle. I expect to see an explosion of development in that Ibadan portion of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway upon completion of the Lagos-Ibadan standard guage rail; which is already evident as one leaves the Ogun end of the expressway and enter into the Oyo/Ibadan side. New neighbourhoods are springing up all over that axis.

Good to know the Ibadan axis is witnessing development in real estate What about the Lagos and Ogun portions. Any interesting projects there?

The Ogun portion (which occupies the longest stretch of the expressway) is filled with industries on both sides. More and more industries are springing up in that axis. One can also sight pockets of estates there as well.

A new Ibadan road city bypass project (Termed "Circular road") was commissioned by Ajimobi last month. It is meant to be like the Benin city Bypass and connect the Ibadan end of the Lagos Ibadan road to the other end of the road, Ibadan - Ife, thereby taking some traffic away from the city core by diverting it through the bypass. Has anyone posted the news here? Is that a good or bad thing? www.channelstv.com/2017/06/17/gov-ajimobi-flags-off-n70bn-ibadan-circular-road-construction/

I heard a commissioner from the state say it would be built with private sector funds under a 'build, operate, and transfer' arrangement at the cost of N70-billion, and may be tolled. I think work has already commenced on it sef. From the pix it looks similar to the oba aderemi bypass that aregbe is building in Osun.
